Today’s Automotive Corner is coming at you from the very same place the mod shop came at you from, our local panera bread..man im gonna go broke here lol. Also to let all of our fans know, the Automotive Corner and The Mod Shop are going to come at you at a new time slot,late afternoon-early evening. Right now it’s currently 6pm and this is around the time ill be able to drop some knowledge on ya from now on! Well Today we are discussing Honda motor company’s latest sub-compact to hit the market within the last few years, The Fit!

Its getting alittle bit of a revision as far as looks go, and Honda is throwing in a few more goodies for the 2009 Sport model. This new fit which will debut as the NY international auto show has enchanced comfort and convenience, though dimensionally compact on the outside, the interior provides surprisingly large passenger and cargo space to maximize comfort and utility. Now this is pretty cool, this new fit is suited up with what they call the “rear Magic Seat”. Pretty much this is a one-motion dive-down rear seat that folds flat with the front seats in the rearmost slide position and without removing the rear head restraint’s. They also have many seating and cargo-carrying configurations like “tall object mode, long object mode and utility mode.” I personally would love to see how these configuration’s set and where they set.Honda has also thrown in a new hidden storage bin under the driver’s side rear seat to provide a place to for small items.

Now on the tech side, the Fit Sport offers an available factory-installed Satellite-Linked Nav System complete with voice recognition, and 6.5-inch screen. All Fit Sport models come with a USB based audio system thats compatible with the latest iPods and many USB storage devices. Truth be told this car like many small cars are not just great on gas, but like an over-powered go kart, they are fun to Drive!

Now for the powerplant. The Fit features a new ity bity 1.5-liter i-VTEC™ 4 Cyl motor connected to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic, and like many car companies these day’s honda is also jumping on the ferrari bandwagon with including steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. This new motor is designed to offer the best fuel economy and power possible within reason. As for rims, the standard fit will have 15’s and 16-inch’s rims will see the sport model. These rim sized compliment the Fit’s enhanced suspension, steering and body rigidity, which are intended to produce sportier handling without sacrificing comfort. 

Now with all the electronic goodies, and the cargo space adjustments and the performance comes the most important part, Safety! The 2009 Fit now is equipped with Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure technology, Vehicle Stability Assist ™ (VSA®) and active head restraints. They also keep your knoggin safe with Dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, dual front-side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) and side-curtain airbags as well. All seating positions have three-point seat belts. Additionally, front and rear visibility is improved over the previous generation. We cannot forget something like anti-lock braking system (ABS), with ventilated discs in the front and drums in the back, and electronic brake distribution (EBD). I dont know about you, but to me this sounds like a complete package in todays world in every direction, but does it tickle your fancy in the looks department? Could you drive a car that you in your opinion was not so attractive but you knew if something happened while on the road you would be safe? Thats the ultimate question. Ok, so I know I bring you that heat on whats good in the world today when it comes to bring you more horse’s under the hood and some more torque to throw you back in ya seat, but Today is different…Meaning today im covering something thats not a motor/trans/suspension/body etc mod.. no no.. sorry to all my fans whom are Wrenches/Gear heads, But today I am bringing you the low down on how to be a baller on a budget(like so many of us are lol). I’m covering something thats in the ICE department( ICE = In Car Entertainment)

It’s not a high end brand but it gets the job done, Ive seen this piece in person and I thought for the price it was mighty impressive to be honest, what am I talking about?

To all my car audio nutz, we know this name from waaaay back, like rockin a Jensen head unit with Pyle sub woofers in the 1980’s way back, and yes this name is still alive! its not a top contender(hell look at the market, its hard enough to compete) but it’s still a good brand, I myself use to own a Jensen chameleon and for the price, it served me well! And we All know sometimes its about the price when you are on a budget and Ladies and gentlemen for only $399.99 you cant beat it!! (well you probably could but with a high probability of it sucking in the quality dept).

Jensen’s VM9312HD head unit has HD Radio technology that’ll give you flawless radio, ok you see how HDTV looks by chance? now picture that awesome picture in sound form……. yeah its a nice thought huh? You’ll hear static free reception from participating stations, and you’ll be able to pick up the extra channels of content broadcast by HD Radio stations as well.. ya cant beat it!

This SINGLE DIN(yes single!!) plays your CDs(normal format/MP3/WMA) and DVDs, and it lets you control everything from the 7″ retractable touchscreen.

A user friendly interface lets you scan through menus and selections very easily. It also has a secondary 8-character LCD screen that lets you operate this head unit when the screen is not open so if you don’t want people knowing you have this for some reason, tuck the screen in and play on!

Now the little goodies about this too, you can hook you iPod to it and control it via touch screen,it has a rear view camera input and 2 video out puts in-case you have 2 extra screens you want to hook in, as well as a wireless remote It is a 13 watts RMS and 40 peak x 4 channels so it does have good enough power to support your in-car speakers.

I tell ya what, i would dump my current H.U for this and i have a nice pioneer cd/mp3/wma player but man, for another 100 bucks you can have this??? I think its a given!!
