Happy Friday Everybody!! The Mod Shop Is Here!!!! Spotlight: JSC Speed

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Ok Everyone, Today the Mod Shop is coming at you all thanks to the guys at Bay To Bay Technology… My network was down last night and I couldnt get it going for nothing but they got Matt on the job and im here! Thank you B2B Tech for VizX is here and The Mod Shop Is Now!!!

So Whats going on with everybody?? Happy as I am that the weekend is here? I bet you are! This week took forever, or so it felt, But anyway On Topic!

Today we are checking out a Turbo system upgrade for your 2003-2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 with an AGP Turbocharger system from:

“AGP’s SRT-4 turbo kit starts off with a new cast exhaust manifold centered around the Garrett T31 High Flow 4 bolt outlet turbine housing. Turbo placement is a key variable in this design, because of the clearance with the engine and firewall. Rest assured, the centerline placement of the AGP’s turbocharger gives the turbo clearance around the SRT-4’s firewall.
AGP’s turbine side features a GT31 turbine wheel surrounded in the higher flowing newly designed 4 bolt outlet T31 .63 A/R turbine housing manufactured specifically for the highest flowing performance. AGP does not use the decades-old OEM designed 5 bolt turbine housing due to its flow restrictions at high pressure ratios.
AGP also added an elbow to the compressor housing so that it will line up to your factory SRT-4 intercooler charge pipe with some modification. AGP’s SRT-4 turbo kit uses the Turbonetics Evolution external wastegate to properly manage the exhaust flow to the turbine and prevent any unwanted boost creep, while still allowing enough control for those wanting to push the engine to its limits. The Evolution gate does this perfectly with a few different spring rates (all spring rates included in the kit). The AGP SRT-4 turbo kit vents the external wastegate to the atmosphere to keep turbine efficiency the highest as possible.”

(photo above is a 50 trim but may not be actual kit)

Now you have three options with your turbo selection.

  1. “STANDARD 50 TRIM: The 50 trim is the best matched turbo for the SRT-4’s 2.4L motor for street/strip purposes. AGP’s 50 Trim SRT4 turbo kit spools fast, and makes great power. The 50 trim turbo is perfect for those wanting to make big power on pump gas and go to the track once in a while at run some 11’s. If you plan to run nothing but pump gas, and want the best street turbo for your SRT-4, then the AGP 50 trim is your turbo. Full boost should be right around 3200-3300rpms with a .63 A/R turbine housing. AGP’s test cars have pulled over 420whp on pump gas at 23psi. The maximum boost is around 30psi where AGP has seen 500whp. This turbo is not ball-bearing.”
  2. BALL-BEARING 50 TRIM: The AGP ball bearing 50 trim turbo kit has the same power capacity as the 50 trim turbo listed above, but has faster spool. Ceramic ball bearings create less friction for faster spool and better response. The ball bearing option costs $500 more, but is a much better SRT-4 street turbo, without any downsides. The AGP ball bearing 50 trim turbocharger is oil and water cooled and includes water lines.”
  3. 60-1 TRIM: AGP’s 60-1 SRT-4 turbo kit can make well over 500whp and support 32psi. Full boost is around 3400-3500 in a .63 A/R turbine housing. While the AGP 60-1 is a good race turbo kit, on pump gas is much less efficient than the 50trim. You will need a built motor to truly take advantage of the extra power this turbo will make. At 30psi it will make 40-50hp more than the 50 trim but at 20psi will usually make ~20hp less, so keep this in mind for street SRT-4s. The 60 trim turbo is ony recommended if you have a built motor and care more about race performance than street performance. This turbo is not ball-bearing.”

There are a few small notes at the bottom of their page so please read carefully so you make the best decision for your SRT4. Prices on their turbo’s range from just below $1900.00 to just below $2400.00 Below is a sample video found on youtube on what a nicely powered SRT-4 can do and sound like.

Well there you have it SRT people! The SRT4 neon will live on forever as it co-exists with the new SRT4, The Caliber! I hope you have enjoyed the mod shop today, thanks again Bay To Bay Technology for makin sure I can continue to bring whats hot in the automotive aftermarket today in The Mod Shop!!!

Rotora Performance Parts

Oh yes, its time.. The Mod Shop Is Here! Spotlight Today: Banks Power!

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Ok so if you have ever watched the powerblock on SpikeTV(if you get that channel) im sure you have seen an add or two or a segment even on trucks regarding Gale Banks and his crazy power adders and power upgrades for your diesel applications(powerstroke/cummins/duramax). Well today we are heading in that direction. Since the beginning of the mod shop ive covered mods for cars, I havnt touched the truck department and I realized this last week. So today im bringing whats good from Gale Banks! Today im covering his Six-Gun Diesel Tuner and PowerPDA for your 2003-2007 5.9 24 valve Dodge Cummins Diesel.

Banks 6-Gun Power PDA

Ok so with the Banks’ Six-Gun Diesel Tuner on your dodge cummins, it brings to the table the highest proven horsepower and torque—up to +105HP and +258 Ft/Lbs of TQ!! Sounds like some impressive numbers right? Well with the PowerPDA vehicle command center, your gains can reach alittle farther, like +126HP and +290Ft/Lbs of TQ at the wheels!! I mean c’mon, thats impressive but of course you will reach these numbers with recommended airflow improvements(intake/exhaust etc). With it calibrated for racing and sport, the Six-Gun is loaded with Power to tune timing your timing and monitor your fuel pressure, all in one device. The PowerPDA(A portable full-color touch-screen vehicle command center) monitors and records performance along with up to 17 engine parameters. This little technology beast times and logs your performance runs, provides temperature limiting safety, and scans/clears vehicle codes as well!! Ok no needing to run to the autoparts store for the free code scan or go to an auto shop and pay them to diagnose your vehicle anymore, this can do it all for you incase your truck throws any codes! The Palm Tungsten E2 PDA can be disconnected and taken with you to check your schedule and contact list, listen to MP3s, share pictures as well, and more! It’s not just a PDA for the truck, you can use it as your everyday life PDA, but unfortunately the PDA is sold separately.

The Six-Gun has a feature called AutoRate, which is an electronic powertrain management system that automatically adjusts power output to a safe level for conditions, some are:

  • Torque converter clutch lockup protection
  • Transmission slip detection
  • Safe-range turbo calibration
  • Exhaust gas temp limiting (with PowerPDA)
  • Coolant temperature monitoring
  • Cold engine protection

ActiveSafety features ensure that Six-Gun electronics will in no way impact the durability or function of the onboard electronics.

The beauty about this mod is that it installs quickly and easily. This is By far gives the most performance, the best value, safety and most advanced engineering of any tuner!!

*FLASH* BREAKING NEWS *FLASH* Chrysler is sleeping with the enemy!!!!

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Holy crap everyone!! This is your friend VizX here and yes I just did the automotive corner not 24 hrs ago, but when I read this it became my duty and my want to keep you all in the know!!

For most die-hard automotive nuts, you all know that for decades its been imports Vs domestics, well thats why I titled this article that way, Chrysler And Nissan just made quite a deal with each other!!!

I Found this article and I just had to post it!

“Following the announcement this past January that Nissan would be supplying Chrysler with a new car based of the Versa’s platform, the two automakers announced today that more exchange is on the horizon, including a new small car for Chrysler and a Dodge-based pickup for Nissan.

The unnamed small car will be built by Nissan in Japan utilizing a Chrysler design and will be sold in North America, Europe and other markets in 2010. On the other side of the spectrum, Chrysler will build a full-size pick-up for Nissan that will share design cues with the rest of the Nissan line and be built at Chrysler’s Saltillo Assembly Plant in Mexico. Sales of the pick-up will begin in North America in 2011.

The move is part of an effort by both automakers to utilize each other’s global manufacturing facilities and finally gets Carlos Ghosn, Nissan’s CEO, the American automaker partnership he’s been looking for since last year.

We’re hoping on a conference call with Nissan to see if either automaker releases more information, but in the meantime check Chrysler’s press release after the jump.

UPDATE: No word on whether or not the new Nissan pick-up will use Chrysler’s hybrid drivetrain. Nissan spokespeople are not calling this a partnership, rather an “OEM exchange” and nothing more.
UPDATE 2: The Nissan pick-up will be a full-size light truck.
UPDATE 3: The Chrysler small car will be on a Nissan-developed platform and will be covered in Chrysler-designed sheetmetal. The platform will not be based of the Versa. Nissan reps couldn’t answer any questions about whether or not the small car will share any design cues from the Dodge Hornet concept.
UPDATE 4: We’re going to hop onto the the Chrysler conference in a bit and will update this post with information as it happens. Check back in about 30 minutes for more.
UPDATE 5: Chrysler and Chery are still working together. Chery has Chrysler drivetrain people working with them now. Chery-developed B-segment model is still in the offing, but no idea when it could come to the U.S.
UPDATE 6: Chrysler’s design team just wrapped up styling of the small car, so it’s doubtful that it will share many cues with the Hornet concept. Too bad, since the Hornet was well received. LaSorda says, “it’s a beautiful design.

PRESS RELEASE

Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. issued the following press release on Monday:

AUBURN HILLS, Mich / TOKYO (April 14, 2008) – Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced two new agreements for the supply of products between both companies. In January, Nissan agreed to supply Chrysler with a new car based on the Nissan Versa sedan for limited distribution in South America on an Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) basis in 2009.

This new OEM exchange benefits both companies through range extension and the utilization of global manufacturing capacity. Highlights of the new agreement:

Nissan will manufacture an all-new, fuel-efficient small car based on a unique Chrysler concept and design. This new segment entry for Chrysler will be sold in North America, Europe and other global markets in 2010, and manufactured at Nissan’s Oppama Plant in Japan.

Chrysler will manufacture a full-size pickup for Nissan. Based on a Nissan unique design, this truck will be manufactured at Chrysler’s Saltillo (Mexico) Assembly Plant. In order to accommodate this product, Chrysler will shift volume from Mexico to its U.S.-based assembly plants that produce pickup trucks. Sales of the pickup in North America will start in 2011.

This latest OEM supply agreement extends a long standing product exchange relationship between the two corporations, with Nissan affiliate JATCO already supplying Chrysler with transmissions since 2004.

“Forging the right tactical partnerships is critical to the long-term success of Chrysler,” said Tom LaSorda, Chrysler LLC President and Vice Chairman. “It also builds on the Company’s inherent strengths, including the ability to respond rapidly and creatively to emerging opportunities.”

“In January, we said we would continue to look for additional OEM opportunities with Chrysler,” said Carlos Tavares, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motor Company. “This latest agreement builds on Nissan’s proven track record to deliver win-win product exchanges with multiple manufacturers around the world,” continued Tavares.
Since the signing of the first OEM agreement in January, the two companies have also agreed to maintain an open dialogue to explore further product-sharing opportunities.”
