Welcome Everybody! This is VizX’s Automotive Corner! Ford + Performance Truck= Lightning Concept???

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Yes you read that correctly, Ford is looking at FINALLY putting a performance truck idea back in the works! Its been, hmm I dont know, 5 years since the last performance truck rolled onto the streets with a blue oval in the grille. When SVT was making it’s return with the SVT Shelby Cobra GT500 there was supposed to be an SVT Adrenalin Sport Trac that had the previous generation cobra’s 4.6 S/C 390HP V8 but married to an AWD transmission. ~>SVTA

BUT sadly this never made it past a concept. Well in spite of plummeting sales of big trucks, a high-performance variant of the new 2009 F-150 should debut later this fall, I would imagine at either SEMA or the L.A Auto Show. Lightning Maybe? Wouldn’t that be nice? To Get The 500+ HP S/C+Super Cooled Lightning we were promise and so badly denied?

Here are some photo’s of the Lightning we were supposed to get back in ‘05:

Now incase your wondering about the part where I mentioned Super cooled. Here is what that means, the SuperCooler cleverly provides a special burst of power for the SVT Lightning concept. Traditional intercoolers dissipate heat from the supercharged air by circulating coolant through a front-mounted, air-cooled radiator. With the SuperCooler system, the vehicle’s air conditioning system is used to chill a small storage tank of coolant to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

On demand, the SuperCooler system switches the intercooler flow from its normal circulation and dumps the chilled coolant into the engine’s intercooler. In turn, the intercooler dissipates up to 20 percent more heat from the charge air – resulting in a denser air charge.  A green light on the instrument panel indicates the system’s readiness. SuperCooler is activated automatically when the driver depresses the accelerator to a wide-open-throttle position. This technology plays directly into the hands of the enthusiast, Coletti says. The SuperCooler provides the edge for the driver, and it is done simply by taking advantage of the hardware that already exists in the vehicle.

As a result of this cool technology, the SVT Lighting concept can give its driver as much as 50 transient horsepower for short bursts of 30-45 seconds and regenerate within 2 minutes under normal driving conditions. While its effect is similar to that of an aftermarket nitrous oxide system, the SuperCooler is completely self-contained, environmentally friendly and regenerative.

Now I hope and pray this idea see’s this next performance truck! Now there is also a really good chance that this might be the next generation of Harley Davidson edition truck’s, as we know the HD shared the same motor as the lightning so it wouldn’t surprise me that this is just another HD truck ford is putting out. But im with all the SVT fans out there, GIVE US THE LIGHTNING!

Welcome To The Automotive Corner! Subaru + Toyota = Impreza Coupe!

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Welcome Everybody to VizX’s Automotive Corner, i’ve recently learned of the new Impreza coming from Subaru and all i have to say is wow!! I’ve always really liked what subaru has brought to the public, but they got together with the honcho’s at Toyota and they have brought this idea to us for 2010!

Impreza coupe

“It’s the most stylish Subaru ever! And this striking Impreza coupé will go into production in 2010.

Joining the recently launched hatch-back model, it will allow the Japanese company to tackle the BMW 3-Series Coupé and Nissan 350Z head-on, as well as reach out to new customers.

The car has been developed as part of a joint venture with Subaru owner Toyota – the project will also spawn a long-awaited successor to the Nineties Celica. The Impreza coupé takes styling cues from the five-door model, but gets a rakish rear end. That gives it a chunky yet athletic appearance which stands out from the crowd.

Power will come from a choice of two engines, both employing the flat-four boxer layout for which Subaru is famous. There’s a normally aspirated 2.0-litre unit giving around 180bhp, or a high-performance 2.5-litre turbo powerplant borrowed from the range-topping five-door STi. The latter will deliver in the region of 300bhp.

For the entry-level machine, the Impreza’s four-wheel-drive system will be dropped in favour of a more lightweight and less expensive rear-drive set-up. That will put the emphasis on maximum driving thrills. But the more powerful car will send power to four tyres to harness all that punch.

The newcomer will go on sale first in Japan and the US, and could arrive here in the UK in 2011. In entry-level guise, it’s set to cost around £20,000, with the flagship priced at £25,000.

In a related story, Nissan is working on an affordable rear-wheel-drive coupé to sit below the 350Z. The Silvia replacement will go on sale in 2010.”

“Audi A3 Clubsport Concept – Car News

During the 2008 North American International Auto Show, Audi got our mouths watering with its R8 V-12 TDI concept, which boasted a pavement-shredding 500 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque and was intended to showcase the performance possibilities of oil-burners. We are pleased to see the Bavarian automaker shows no intention of slowing its diesel campaign with the A3 Clubsport Quattro concept as its latest tease.

As with the R8 V-12 TDI, you can’t miss the wild front fascia sporting the signature Audi wide-mouth grille and two massive, child-sized air intakes below the bixenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. Complementing the aggressive nose are bolt-on fender flares arching over 10-spoke, 20-inch wheels wrapped in 265/30ZR-20 tires.

The doors have flared sills, blending the front and rear wheel arches nicely. The rear hatch sports a spoiler atop the rear glass and a dark grey lower diffuser complete with dual softball-shooter exhaust pipes. The large number “8” on each door references the year 2008, while the red and white color choice pays homage to the Austrian national flag, the country where the car is to be unveiled at the end of the month.

Taking the A3 three-door hatchback (not sold in the U.S.) and adding a bulging body kit reminiscent of the one found on the Subaru WRX STI is just the beginning. Under the hood rests a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine pumping out 224 horsepower and a staggering 332 lb-ft of torque. It is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive, giving this 3252-pound hatch the ability to leap from 0-to-62 mph in 6.6 seconds.

With the European-exclusive Audi S3 reaching 62 mph in just 5.7 seconds, the A3 Clubsport could seem a bit sluggish, but seeing as it clocks in at almost a full second faster to 62 than the production Audi TT 2.0 TDI Quattro—which is powered by a version of the same engine—the Clubsport proves it is no slouch. Bringing the car to a halt from the 149-mph top speed are six-piston calipers over 14-inch ceramic rotors up front and standard A3 production discs in the rear.

An overall body drop of 1.4 inches and 20-inch wheels promise a stiff ride; ride and handling are managed though Audi’s magnetically adjustable shocks, which enable the suspension to adjust in fractions of a second. In conjunction with the magnetic suspension, the A3 Clubsport aims to enhance the drive through a dynamic system that varies things like throttle response, exhaust sound, the level of power-steering assist, and the thresholds for the electronic stability control.

The racing theme of the exterior is not lost when stepping inside the cabin. From track-styled seats to the aluminum, open-gated shifter and toggle switches in the center console, this concept clearly states its racy intent.

At this point Audi has no official plans for producing the A3 Clubsport, but like many concepts of today, there is always a purpose. With this 2.0 TDI already in production don’t be surprised if you see Clubsport cues come alive in future Audis.”

such a sexy car, some hatchbacks just as nasty as can be, but this one right here is serious! I only hope the S3 makes its way across the pond!

Well that about wraps it up for today, I hope that you will come back to us for the best on whats in the world today! I Am VizX, and you are now IN THE KNOW!! I’ll see you thursday in The Mod Shop!
