Friday, July 18th, 2008

Ok Everyone, Today the Mod Shop is coming at you all thanks to the guys at Bay To Bay Technology… My network was down last night and I couldnt get it going for nothing but they got Matt on the job and im here! Thank you B2B Tech for VizX is here and The Mod Shop Is Now!!!

So Whats going on with everybody?? Happy as I am that the weekend is here? I bet you are! This week took forever, or so it felt, But anyway On Topic!

Today we are checking out a Turbo system upgrade for your 2003-2005 Dodge Neon SRT-4 with an AGP Turbocharger system from:

“AGP’s SRT-4 turbo kit starts off with a new cast exhaust manifold centered around the Garrett T31 High Flow 4 bolt outlet turbine housing. Turbo placement is a key variable in this design, because of the clearance with the engine and firewall. Rest assured, the centerline placement of the AGP’s turbocharger gives the turbo clearance around the SRT-4’s firewall.
AGP’s turbine side features a GT31 turbine wheel surrounded in the higher flowing newly designed 4 bolt outlet T31 .63 A/R turbine housing manufactured specifically for the highest flowing performance. AGP does not use the decades-old OEM designed 5 bolt turbine housing due to its flow restrictions at high pressure ratios.
AGP also added an elbow to the compressor housing so that it will line up to your factory SRT-4 intercooler charge pipe with some modification. AGP’s SRT-4 turbo kit uses the Turbonetics Evolution external wastegate to properly manage the exhaust flow to the turbine and prevent any unwanted boost creep, while still allowing enough control for those wanting to push the engine to its limits. The Evolution gate does this perfectly with a few different spring rates (all spring rates included in the kit). The AGP SRT-4 turbo kit vents the external wastegate to the atmosphere to keep turbine efficiency the highest as possible.”

(photo above is a 50 trim but may not be actual kit)

Now you have three options with your turbo selection.

  1. “STANDARD 50 TRIM: The 50 trim is the best matched turbo for the SRT-4’s 2.4L motor for street/strip purposes. AGP’s 50 Trim SRT4 turbo kit spools fast, and makes great power. The 50 trim turbo is perfect for those wanting to make big power on pump gas and go to the track once in a while at run some 11’s. If you plan to run nothing but pump gas, and want the best street turbo for your SRT-4, then the AGP 50 trim is your turbo. Full boost should be right around 3200-3300rpms with a .63 A/R turbine housing. AGP’s test cars have pulled over 420whp on pump gas at 23psi. The maximum boost is around 30psi where AGP has seen 500whp. This turbo is not ball-bearing.”
  2. BALL-BEARING 50 TRIM: The AGP ball bearing 50 trim turbo kit has the same power capacity as the 50 trim turbo listed above, but has faster spool. Ceramic ball bearings create less friction for faster spool and better response. The ball bearing option costs $500 more, but is a much better SRT-4 street turbo, without any downsides. The AGP ball bearing 50 trim turbocharger is oil and water cooled and includes water lines.”
  3. 60-1 TRIM: AGP’s 60-1 SRT-4 turbo kit can make well over 500whp and support 32psi. Full boost is around 3400-3500 in a .63 A/R turbine housing. While the AGP 60-1 is a good race turbo kit, on pump gas is much less efficient than the 50trim. You will need a built motor to truly take advantage of the extra power this turbo will make. At 30psi it will make 40-50hp more than the 50 trim but at 20psi will usually make ~20hp less, so keep this in mind for street SRT-4s. The 60 trim turbo is ony recommended if you have a built motor and care more about race performance than street performance. This turbo is not ball-bearing.”

There are a few small notes at the bottom of their page so please read carefully so you make the best decision for your SRT4. Prices on their turbo’s range from just below $1900.00 to just below $2400.00 Below is a sample video found on youtube on what a nicely powered SRT-4 can do and sound like.

Well there you have it SRT people! The SRT4 neon will live on forever as it co-exists with the new SRT4, The Caliber! I hope you have enjoyed the mod shop today, thanks again Bay To Bay Technology for makin sure I can continue to bring whats hot in the automotive aftermarket today in The Mod Shop!!!

You Have Just Been Modded!! See you monday :)

Whats Up Everybody!! Its Time For The Mod Shop!! Spotlight:PWR Performance

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope all is going well with you all, the weekend is about here so I know you are all anxious as I am! Today I am covering a company that started across the pond in australia and has reached our hands here in the states.

PWR Performance Products has had a big presence in australia for about 25 years. With their own furnace brazing oven of on hand, they have been providing OEM replacement radiators in the Australian market. Since they have been providing well into the 90% range of the radiators to the V8’s in Australia, you better believe that they know what it takes to get rid of heat in the engine coolant as well as the compressed air of a turbo. Being they are based in Australia, they get a lot of Japanese vehicles before they come on shore here in the States. They also are responsible for some damn high efficient intercooler cores and assemblies as well as transmission and engine oil coolers.

Now the product im covering today is one of their OEM Radiator’s that fits many applications.

Now Whether its radiators or intercoolers, their products comes polished to near-chrome shine. With 18 fins per inch and 100% TIG welded, PWR radiators are strong and durable. PWR All-Aluminum radiators are made from aircraft quality aluminum, and manufactured 100% in-house. Featuring oven brazed (no epoxy) core, this radiator eleminates the problem of cracking plastic tanks.

Well thats it, short and sweet I would say. For a list of all the makes that apply to this radiator please go HERE.

To check out ALL the products they carry(which is alot) please see HERE.

Thank you for coming by the mod shop today, I hope you all have a fun and safe weekend!

See you monday at the Auto-Corner! You Have just been modded!!

The Automotive Corner Is Here! Yes Its Tuesday Not Monday!

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Welcome everybody to a fashionably day late automotive corner, I am VizX and thank you for joining us here at flytoyz.com.

Lately ive been hearing raves about the latest electric sports car named Tesla. The battery-powered Tesla is based on a modified Lotus Elise chassis so you know it handles like an overpowered go kart which is always fun! The name Tesla for the auto maker is paying tribute to inventor Nikola Tesla, who patented the first induction electric motor in 1888!! Thats 120 years ago! The automobile goes quite a ways back..alittle farther then we think sometimes. Here is a little something from the Tesla site: “When you build a car that’s electric, you start with one built-in advantage: Electric cars just don’t have to be as complex mechanically as the car you’re probably driving now. Sophisticated electronics and software take the place of the pounds and pounds of machinery required to introduce a spark and ignite the fuel that powers an internal combustion engine.

For example, the typical four-cylinder engine of a conventional car comprises over a hundred moving parts. By comparison, the motor of the Tesla Roadster has just one: the rotor. So there’s less weight to drive around and fewer parts that could break or wear down over time.

But the comparison doesn’t end with the counting of moving parts. The engine and transmission of a conventional car also need lubricating oils, filters, coolant, clutches, spark plugs and wires, a PCV valve, oxygen sensors, a timing belt, a fan belt, a water pump and hoses, a catalytic converter, and a muffler — all items requiring service, and all items that aren’t needed in an electric car.”

The Drivetrain is an Electric motor with 2-speed electrically-actuated-manual-shift transmission, the Motor consists of a 3-phase, 4-pole electric motor, 248hp peak (185kW), redline 13,000 rpm!!! It has a guestimated 135MPG with a Top Speed is 125MPH and goes 0-60 in just under four seconds!! Thats pretty nice for an electric roadster. For Stoppers it has a 4 wheel disc brake setup that includes Cross-drilled rotors in the front and in the rear with curved vane ventilation; AP Racing Two piston Aluminum fixed front calipers; Brembo Single piston sliding rear calipers and can go 220miles before or 3 1/2 hours before a recharge! The car will be offered with a cord and a conventional 120-volt wall plug, should you be away from home, but charging time then stretches to 33 hours. The battery pack will be warranted for five years or 100,000 miles., this car not only being a roadster with an open top, but it does have some factory installed options if you so choose, like Bluetooth cellular phone integration, Satellite radio with 170 channels of digital sound,Seven-speaker premium sound system tuned for Tesla Roadster cockpit,Touch-screen navigation system with voice guidance,Matching body-colored carbon fiber hardtop with full headliner, a mobile charging system and a few others. This can all be yours for a price tag right around 100k.

Well thats all I have for now, don’t be surprised to see a few celeb’s driving this as it may make them feel like they are doing good for the environment. Wether they feel good or not, I thank them for it. Yes I Thank them. We got to start taking care of the environment and the earth before it comes back on us!

And as always you know I have the eye candy for ya!

For some sweet looking wallpaper for your computer please check out the Tesla website Here!

Thank you all for coming by today, It will be back to Monday next week that I promise!

I hope you all have enjoyed yourself as much as I have writing this!!

Have a Great week everyone and I will see you thursday on The Mod Shop!
