GameOn! Reviews Battlefield: Bad Company

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

What’s up everyone, today we will be doing a quick review of Battlefield: Bad Company.

Battlefield: Bad Company cover (Xbox 360)

Overview:

This
is a Military FPS in which you are part of a 4 man squad in a fictional
war in the not to distant future where the US is pitted against the
Russian Federation.

Features:

Classes:
The five classes in Battlefield: Bad Company are Assault, Demolitions, Recon, Specialist, and Support.

Vehicles:
The
vehicles available during game play range from tanks, infantry fighting
vehicles, armored cars, attack helicopters, patrol boats, and even golf
carts during single and multiplayer games.

Ranks:
There
are 25 ranks, each from the U.S. Army (Corporal, Sergeant, Colonel,
etc.) which the highest rank being General of the Army which takes
37,000 in game points to achieve.

Awards:
Online players can unlock three different awards.

Trophies: Are awarded for multiple kills in a certain class, kills to defend an objective, and for other team-related actions.

Patches:
Are awarded for gaining certain trophies and then completing certain
criteria in an online match. (Can only be awarded once to a player)

Wildcards: Are awarded once to a player for a combination of many different criteria and are harder to unlock than trophies or patches.

This
game also includes the Frostbite Game Engine which allows 90% of the
environment to be destroyed. Which means you can blow walls down with a
grenade or mow down the nearest tree line with your vehicles 50 cal.
machine gun. (Very enjoyable!!)

The player is able to use their weapon to damage the environment enabling the player to create ambush sites or take out a sniper's cover.

Objectives:

The
single player objectives of Battlefield: Bad Company are to find the
hidden gold bars and collectible weapons although these objectives are
not required.

Multiplayer supports up to 24 players. Gold Rush
was the only multiplayer mode included in the initial release of
Battlefield: Bad Company. It’s an Attackers vs. Defenders scenario, in
which one team must defend two crates filled with gold while the other
team attempts to destroy the crates. Once the crates are destroyed,
more of the map is available to fight on with new crates appearing,
along with added reinforcement numbers. The attacking team has a
limited amount of respawns to achieve their goal of capturing the 3-5
gold stashes either by setting charges or simply destroying the 2
crates of gold at each base. The defending team has an unlimited amount
of respawns available, but their goal is to exhaust the attacking teams
respawns.

Final Word:
All in all the game is quite fun to play and keeps you involved at all
times for an enjoyable gaming experience. I would recommend this game
to any FPS fan.

GameOn! Review’s Madden 2009

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Welcome To Part Two Of GameOn! The Section dedicated to all you gamers out there. This is ya boy VizX and I’ve got the latest and greatest football title to talk to you about.
Who else but Madden 2009

This title has already released this past August 12th, It dropped in Europe on August 15th and The Spanish version will be dropping on September 17th and with this title there are two new Booth Commentators for PS3. Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond. Unfortunately for everybody else, Al Michaels and John Madden are the current listed commentator’s due to memory limitations. There are a few new looks in the game as well, changes to the coin toss and pre-game introduction have been made,a brand new Banner System, Pre-game visuals have been added for the football enthusiast such as Stadium fly-in to help you feel like your watching the game from your own living room. The game is also getting new camera angles.

’09 is coming at you with a new enhanced Play Calling System. With picture-in-picture play calling, it streamlines important information to the user that includes Instant Replay, Stats and Accessibility hints. Also on demand access and the ability to make substitutions directly on play call gives more flexibility to the play call screen. And To Add a reality spin to it, this new madden comes with improved sidelines features like more people on the sidelines, including a variety of security, coaches, and players. These Characters have more activity and emotions than previous versions of the game as well to make this feel as real as possible so if you fumble the ball why dont you get a gander at your coaches face and let the emotions tell you what he is thinking(watch out buc’s fans! lol). A Few Other Features w/o giving away the greatness of this new title are things like:

  • Returnable missed field goals
  • Bobble catches
  • Pass tuning
  • Slide protection
  • Smart routes
  • Post play continuation
  • Post play help-ups
  • Ball carrier combo moves
  • Live pre-play defense
  • New wrap-up tackling system
  • Improved foot pinning
  • New catch system
  • Realistic fatigue
  • Improved gang tackles
  • True penalty based animations
  • New fumble system
  • New tackling engine & animations
  • Realistic momentum with new locomotion system

I mean the list can go on and on!! Lets not forget the Rewind feature too, Say you are playing one of your friends, you make a hail mary to a key receiver and he goes for 6, well your friend wants a 2nd chance to shut you down… he hits rewind and it literally rewinds it back to the line of scrimmage and you have to try again to make it before you get sacked!! Thats going to make for interesting at home rivalries!

Roberto Garza, the starting guard for the Chicago Bears, will be the cover athlete for the the Spanish language version, Madden NFL 09 en Español.

We all know that Brett Farve has retired and then un-retired and was traded off to the NY Jets about five days before Madden NFL 09 was officially released in North America, the game’s cover still features Favre wearing a Packers uniform. Instead of reissuing the packaging, EA has made available a free alternate cover of Favre in a Jets uniform from their website that players are able to download and print which I think is awesome, hell if I pickup this game you better believe ill be printing this new cover, though only PS2/3 is available for the new covers!

Prices? For XBOX360/PS3 users you are looking at 59.99, PS2/PSP your wallets will lose $40.00,DS users its 29.99 and Nintendo Wii Users(Madden ’09 “All-Play”) its 49.99. If you want the Madden XX Years Collectors Edition(PS3/XB360) Your lookin at 69.99!!

Well I hope you enjoyed the 1st Segment of GameOn! We will be hitting you with this on the 1st Wednesday of every month to stay tuned to now be in the know in the gaming world!
