Welcome To The Automotive Corner, Are You Ready?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Ok, Last week I wrote an article about how “Godzilla”(Nissan’s GTR) had set records at “The Ring” in Germany and how Acura was bringing back the NSX to take the title from Nissan, Well believe it or not Acura has someone else to worry about, All American Made Chevrolet. I Say this because the 2009 Corvette ZR-1 took down Godzilla as of just yesterday!!

General Motors development engineer (did you catch that, he’s only a development engineer! not a race car driver!) Jim Mero drove a stock ZR1 around the Nürburgring in a time of 7:26!!!! That’s significantly faster than the 7:29 lap set by the Nissan GT-R. I abosolutely cannot wait to see what the rest of the world’s supercar competitors are gonna do now to up the ante and maybe tie, or break the ZR-1′s record.

GM has stated that the lap time was set by stock ZR1, fitted only with extra safety and communications equipment. Everything else, from the Michelin Pilot tires that wraps those corvette wheels when you purchase it at your local dealer, to the factory suspension settings and all in between.Hell even the fuel was normal pump gas!! So whats next for the ring? We still are awaiting a GTR Spec-V which there are rumors circulating the internet that a brochure from over sea’s has leaked to the internet. With the Spec-V using several techniques, even more performance can actually be wringed out of the GT-R! The car will most likely go through a weight-loss program, which means it may lose up to 100kg, which is the equivalent of a fully grown adult male of average weight. “Lose the man, lose the milliseconds” is Spec V’s mind set to regain a title back at “the ring.”

Typically extra revisions include an even farther improved suspension, advanced roll cage and a reprogrammed AWD system. Power is said to be up to 512 bhp, and coupled with an all-carbon fiber body!!! This should make the Spec V not only as quick as far more expensive super cars(watch out ZR-1), but only handle even better than its entry level self around challenging places like the Nurburgring track. Let’s hope some this isn’t the last we’ll see of the ZR1 ripping up a racetrack as im sure when this version of the GTR drop’s, they will need an actual race car driver to hit the ring, and not just one of their engineer’s.

Acura, you have ALOT of work to do to keep up! Do you think there might be an Acura NSX Type R? (shivers) Damn I hope so :)

Here is a pic I found regarding the Spec V GTR:

Rock Band 2 Goes Official For This Fall!!

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I Found this on Engadget

RB 2

RB 2 Guitar

While the original Rock Band is still going strong, Harmonix is already looking towards the next bit of kit that it hopes will be cluttering your place, with it now getting official with Rock Band 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This time around, it seems the Xbox 360 will be getting a jump on things with a launch in September, with the PS3 version set to follow “later in the year.” Both of those will, naturally, be coming with all new instruments, including the tasty Fender Stratocaster pictured above, but you will be able to use your current gear if you want to spare the extra clutter and save a few bucks. What’s more, you’ll also be able to carry over all your current downloaded content and, as IGN reports, you’ll even be able to download and play new tracks on Rock Band 1 once Rock Band 2 is out. Of course, Harmonix is saving most of the details for E3 next month, but you can find a few more tidbits in IGN’s interview with Harmonix’s Dan Teasdale available at the read link below.”

“Read”

I own the ful RB kit, and a RB 2 is coming out? YEEESSSSSSSS!!! I was just playing this yesterday actually. Im praying the guitar is better made this time around too because im sure we can all agree, Guitar Hero got it right. I wonder how this will stack up against Guitar Hero 4 being GH4 will have a Rockband style kit to it(drums, mic guitar).

Today is Thursday, Its Mod Shop Time! Spotlight: Superlift Suspension Systems!

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Welcome to all my truck owners who love to sit high! This edition of The Mod Shop is for those who want to lift their 2007 Chevy Silverado 4WD and give it that nice, mean stance.

The Company:

superlift

Now at superlift, they offer two different front lift methods. “One system uses towers to space down the factory coilover struts. Pre-load rings, installed below the coil springs, slightly increase spring rate to help offset the additional loads created by running larger tires, and firms-up what would otherwise be “spongy” ride and handling characteristics. This lift method works with all factory shock options, and is required on SUVs factory equipped with the Autoride electronic shock option.

Superlift’s other lift method replaces the factory strut bodies with lifetime-warranted premium gas struts. These new struts have the same features as our 2.5½ struts. Superlift’s design allows full turning radius; not so with some other name brand lifts, where turning radius is reduced by over 20%! For rear lift, most pickup owners opt for 5½ blocks or Superide replacement springs. Shorter lift blocks are available to lessen the nose-down rake, and add-aleafs (used to strengthen the factory rear springs) are offered as well.”

Minor cutting and / or welding is required. You Can run 18″ or 20″ stock wheels with oversize tires. 17″ stock wheel & tire can be used as spare only. Aftermarket wheels require specific backspacing; min. 5.5″/ max 6″.Rear spring installation requires lowering / reinstallation of fuel tank. Not compatible with GMC Denali and Cadillac Escalade so please keep it to just your Silverado and try not to modify your GMC or Caddy to make this fit.

This is the looks difference between a stock 4WD Silverado and a Superlift Silverado.
